OET DURIUS is a project of analysis and action in the Duero-Douro ax<\/strong>is, a priority corridor for biodiversity in the Iberian Peninsula that requires ecological restoration actions to eliminate numerous bottlenecks and critical points that compromise its functionality as a connector between Natura Network areas<\/strong>. Unfortunately, the loss of population, the abandonment of traditional activities and the intensification of agricultural and livestock farming have compromised the viability of cultural landscapes rich in biodiversity and with ecological connecting elements resulting from the traditional balanced co-evolution between humans and nature in these peripheral areas.<\/span><\/p>\n The project works to address these major territorial challenges through the definition and proposal of co-governance policy solutions for the management and improvement of ecological connectivity in cross-border areas, as well as the creation of a Cross-Border Ecological Observatory (CBO)<\/strong> for monitoring to protect and conserve the biodiversity of natural ecosystems and the urban environment.<\/span><\/p>\n biodiversity in the cross-border area of Castilla y Le\u00f3n and Northern Portugal. With an area of 200,000 ha<\/strong>, it covers the cross-border regions of Valladolid, Zamora, Salamanca Tr\u00e1s-os-Montes, the district of Vila Real, the district of Bragan\u00e7a and the Alto Douro Vinhateiro region. The importance for biodiversity of the Durius corridor lies in the fact that it is one of the priority corridors for the ecological coherence of the future Green Infrastructure of the Iberian Peninsula.<\/span><\/p>\n As a priority corridor, an improvement in its conditions would lead to a significant increase in the overall connectivity currently existing in the Natura 2000 Network, as it is concentrated in more fragmented landscapes, with a lower degree of protection and usually dominated by agricultural use, such as the Durius corridor, the area in which the project is framed.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ text_font=”||||||||” text_font_size=”16px” text_line_height=”2em” header_font=”||||||||” header_2_font=”Vollkorn||||||||” header_2_font_size=”35px” header_2_line_height=”1.4em” max_width=”600px” module_alignment=”center” header_2_font_size_tablet=”30px” header_2_font_size_phone=”25px” header_2_font_size_last_edited=”on|desktop” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n It is an area with a great variety of natural habitats of great ecological importance<\/strong> (Cross-border Biosphere Reserve of the Iberian Plateau and Natura 2000 Network: ZEC Douro Int. and ZPE Douro Int. e Vale do \u00c1gueda), a region of transition between different ecosystems and\/or cultural landscapes.
